Letter: Month a reminder to focus on nutrition

March is National Nutrition Month. The 2017 theme is âPut Your Best Fork Forward,â which acts as a reminder that each bite counts. Making just small shifts in our food choices can add up over time. National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association).The Knoxville Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has been promoting good nutrition in this area for more than 60 years. KAND has sponsored such programs as Dial a Dietitian, the TV program "Foodstyle," having a nutrition educator in the school system, establishing a Food Policy Council (first in the U.S.) and requiring healthy foods in school vending machines. A major program was the production of the Knoxville Area Diet Manuals.
